PS3 vs. Xbox 360 - What will 2010 bring?

05/08/2009 08:41

Over the past few months there has been huge speculation over a PS3 Price Cut, PS3 Slim and new version of the Xbox 360 (Xbox 360+) coming into stores soon. Who knows? Noone really, but PlayStation World Magazine has printed a 2-page article in their August copy about what will happen with prices in the coming 12 months.

PSW say there will be a £100 price cut on the PlayStation 3 by 2010 due to a new PS3 Slim which will be possibly announced at the Tokyo Games Show. Yet the Telegraph says that the PS3 Slim will come in a 40gb and 80gb starting from £260. Whilst the PlayStation 3 is coming down in price, Microsoft will be introducing a new console. The Xbox 360+. Basically, the Xbox 360 with better specs and the famous Red Ring of Death could be no longer. It is expected to launch in 2010 with the outstanding Project Natal as a package for £299 whilst the PlayStation 3 sales will be flying high at what could possibly be less than £200.

Ian Dean, Editor of PSW says: " The upshot is, when Microsoft launches its Xbox 360 follow-up, likely next year, PS3 will still be competing in technological terms and will then be the cheaper platform"

What to expect from the PS3 Price Cut

The last PS3 Price cut came in October 2007 when it was chopped from £399 to £299 which saw a monstrous 178% sales increase. Sale increases like this could mean that 360 exclusives like Gears of War, Splinter Cell and Left 4 Dead come to PlayStation which i'm sure all PS3 Fanboys will love.

The threat from Activision has really kicked Sony up the rear end. Next thing Guerrilla Games will be threatening to take the Killzone franchise exclusively to the 360. 2010 will be a big year for next-generation gaming.
